Worms, Glorious Worms!

The poor worms living in our little 'worm farm' have been very neglected over recent months - we decided to prioritise keeping the four humans inside the house alive, and pretty much everything else had to fend for itself!! I finally felt up to venturing outside with a bucket of food scraps and two willing helpers. Thankfully it seems the worms have looked after themselves pretty well, though I'm sure they were extremely grateful for the scraps and the drink of water. Feels so good to be able to take care of a few small things like this around the house again....

The kids have a close inspection of the worms, adding some brown leaves for a tasty snack.

Lily gives the worm scraps/castings a good 'mix' (aeration) while E looks on eagerly!

  1. Oooh worm farm! I really want to set one of these up. I'm glad to hear that they can tolerate a bit of neglect, because that is bound to be the case at our house.
Good to hear you are up and about too. Must be so nice to be able to take on a bit more. Hoping you go from strength to strength now :)

    1. go for it Tarnya! and YES they are definitely pretty hardy! the instructions/guidebooks to do all this stuff filtering every week etc etc etc - ummmmm no! they pretty much fend for themselves - just chuck a bucket of scraps and some water in when I remember it. Since Ive been sick.... its literally been probably a couple MONTHS since I have checked on them at all! and looks like they all survived! generally i try to feed/water them every week or two but yeah, pretty low maintenance - good cos you can still go away and not worry!

  2. Ok you have motivated me to go and give our worms a little bit of love. They are just so easy to neglect! So glad to hear that you are feeling a bit better I can only imagine how exhausting it all must be!
