a little vision in white // wedding-dress-ups!

Oh Lily.

This girl is obsessed with weddings and getting married! She spied my wedding dress in my cupboard last week and started begging to try it on so she could pretend to be Mummy on her wedding day. She even asked for my wedding shoes! I have mixed feelings about her wedding obsession, and was not sure if this was a good idea, encouraging her further?!?! She begged and pleaded daily and well.... I remembered a Pinterest idea of taking a photo of your little girl in your wedding dress, to show her on her own wedding day and soooooo.... I decided to let her enjoy the dress up fun! I do have further musings on this wedding obsession topic, but these shots are so magical, I will leave the deeper writings for another day, I think.

Suffice to say.... it was pretty much all her dreams come true!! Her childish glee and giggles rang out, whilst my heart caught in my throat as I dressed her carefully in layers of tulle from my own beautiful day almost eight years ago... yeah, it was a pretty surreal moment!

Darling girl, if one day you choose to marry, I hope this little photo session will be a tender memory of how you once dreamt of that special day - now a reality!

A joyful mess of tulle

Lily wearing my veil and tulle/silk skirt. The bodice I wore was hired from an amazing local
couturier so Lily has the skirt hitched up and over her shoulders by the skirt's hanger straps!

Dreaming of walking in Mummy's shoes....

Be still, my heart! A glimpse of the amazing woman she is to become....

The shy bride!

How's this coy look?! She is so pleased to be playing 'world's ultimate dress-ups'!

Sniff, sniff!

  1. Wow Kate, these photos are really beautiful. I love all the light you captured. Check out the look of bliss on her face!
Eeeek, your little girl does love a good wedding now doesn't she? It's amazing to watch what out little girl's focus on isn't it. I am not thrilled about Harper's obsession with princesses in fairy tales but look, it has all come from a good place (reading books) and really I have had nothing to do with leading her down that obsessive path!
I think it is lovely that you gave Lily this moment, even if it came with some reservations on your part.
