Last week, I heard the shocking news that one of the Mama's who was part of our '366: Documenting Delight' group had been tragically killed in Brisbane - hit by an out of control car in a parking lot whilst 38 weeks pregnant. Kerryn left behind her adorable two year old daughter and husband so quickly it took our breath away. I didn't know Kerryn personally, but our group is always checking in on each other's blogs to leave some support and 'comment love' so it sure feels like we all got to know each other. I remember checking in on her blog over previous months and being struck by how obvious her devotion to her daughter was, the simple joy and love so clear in her images. So thankful her child now has this beautiful testament of motherly love to look back on - though of course no substitute for the mother we so wish was still here to raise her. One thing we noticed as a group is that Kerryn made an effort to include herself in her photos with her daughter - as if to show - yes, I was here with you, we were together, look at our bond! Something most of us, myself included, rarely have done. I mean, the kids are so cute, why bother to include my mug?! Yet as part of documenting their lives, our relationship is so core, it is also important to record our togetherness - for both our sakes.
In honour of Kerryn our group has decided to follow her beautiful example and take photos of ourselves with our treasures this week. Not feeling at all like being in front of the camera but lovely Amber took some shots for me and the main thing is - I love these children and I am so blessed to be with them, I want photographic memories of our laughter and cuddles.
My mind, heart and prayers has been constantly with Kerryn's family this past week. Just such a shocking and tragic loss of not only this beautiful Mama but her unborn child. A sad reminder that none of us knows the hours we have left on this earth... so let's cherish our loved ones every day and not take a moment for granted...
Too cute! I love the middle picture, your eyebrows are adorable! Great pictures with your lovely kiddos. (It's true! I feel like I "know" so many of you, even though you're on the other side of the planet!)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteLovely words Kate :)
ReplyDeleteHappy to help with the pics (although not my greatest effort)
You should be in these photos more often - you are gorgeous!
I just love your writing Kate, and the photos are divine! You look so well in these ones, it's lovely to see.
ReplyDeleteWonderful pics of you and your two earthside babes Kate! Thank you for sharing them. I know you haven't been feeling great, but you certainly look lovely. Love what you wrote too, you write so well xxx
ReplyDeleteYou look like such a happy mama, beautful shots.
ReplyDeleteYou look great, Kate! Someone recently encouraged me to be sure and take pics of me WITH my kids b/c hers were now teens and she didn't feel she had enough of her with them in their preschool years. Good advice...so I'm trying, too. A lovely tribute to Kerryn.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos for you to have, you look lovely! Well done to Amber too :)
