Slumber Party with Mummy!

After last week's failed sleepover attempt with her baby brother, I thought as Mark was away I would have my own little sleepover with Lily to make up for it. When I told her about it in the afternoon she just about squealed the house down, jumping around with giddy excitement!! The kid has joie de vivre in spades. I thought we'd watch a bit of a movie too, and make a special girly slumber party of it. I had just recorded The Sound of Music and was pretty excited to introduce my little lady to a classic movie of my own childhood (yes, if you hadn't picked it up yet I am preeeeetty sentimental!). Suffice to say, she was beyond thrilled!!

I popped a huge bowl of popcorn and we settled in to watch thirty minutes or so before bedtime. Eli was put to bed early (sorry Buddy Boy, your day will come, I promise!). It was magical... snuggled up with my girl, just the two of us, watching this gorgeous film while Lily peppered me with questions -

Why is she running? (As Julie Andrews does her iconic hill top song)
What are those things on their heads? (The nun's habits)
Is she the Mummy of all the ladies? (Referring to the 'Mother Superior')
What are all the kids names? What are all their middle names?

And so on! She seemed to really enjoy it thankfully, as I am a big musicals fan so am hoping to set her on the good path nice and early!

It was all just simply delicious...

Jumbo popcorn with a jumbo smile!

Later I snuggled her up in my bed, a tiny little pixie wrapped up in our gigantic doona, grinning her head off at this amazing novelty. We snuggled, chatted and prayed, then I left her to sleep as... well, as fun as it was, I did not plan on going to bed at 7.30pm! She laid there awake in silent excitement for quite a long time, funny girl. When I finally came to bed, my heart almost stopped at the sight of a gorgeous little angel peacefully asleep... oh how I love this girl!

My Sleeping Beauty

Although I got woken wayyyyy too early this morning by her cheery face stuck right up to mine enquiring loudly 'Are you awake now, Mummy!?', her little morning cuddles more than made up for it! I think this is the first time I have ever actually been able to have her sleep in our bed - she has always slept in her own bed since a baby (and slept well for it, thankfully!), and whenever we have tried since, just for fun or due to illness, it became quickly apparent that no-one was getting any sleep if we even attempted it. So it was a precious time having her next to me, her little feet stuck ever so sweetly into my back all night!!

My little girl is growing up so fast, and I am really relishing these quiet times hanging out with her, getting to know her for who she is, and marvelling at her emerging personality. She makes me laugh constantly, and I am just fascinated seeing the world through her eyes. I kinda wish I could carry some kind of device that would record her every adorable question, joke and song but I guess even I realise that might be taking things just a leeeeeettle too far!? Nevertheless, I feel so blessed to have this spunky daughter!

So we have crossed 'slumber party' off the list of 'things to do and memories to make'... until the next time, I am sure!

  6. I know we are not supposed to rush the stage our children are in, but seeing your pictures makes me anxious for my little one to be able to really share in traditions like this one! Seeing her with the big bowl of popcorn made me nostalgic for my own childhood movie nights with my parents :)
